Riviera Maya Tulum Airport Tender Dates Pushed Back Six Weeks

Tulum Riviera Maya AirportThe Mexican Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) has amended the date to receive the technical and financial proposals from the interested parties to participate in the bidding for the construction and operation of an airport in the Riviera Maya in the municipality of Tulum.
The new date is set for the 25th of April, until yesterday the date had been established as the 7th of March.
There are two groups interested building the airport in the Riviera Maya, Tulum, and backed by the Federal Competition Commission (CFC): Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) and Grupo Mexico, as a consortium, and Corporate America, Tradeco and private individual.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (Asur), the current concessionaire of the airport of Cancun, was rejected by the FCC, arguing that competition would not be guaranteed. This ruling will be challenged by Asur, whoa has prompted a review of the CFC.
It should be noted that the tender process of the Riviera Maya airport has rescheduled earlier. The mere publication of the bases, which occurred last year, was postponed by the current administration on account of the global economic situation and its impact on the financial sector and the appetite of potential bidders, mainly.
This time around changes in the dates for delivery of technical and economic proposals coincides with changes to the head of the SCT, and corresponding undersecrataries.
