MEXICO CITY – Grupo Mexico, through its infrastructure division, will participate in the bid for the Riviera Airport tomorrow, which will compete for passenger traffic with the one located in Cancun and currently operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (Asur).

“This is a construction project that the group is working on. Grupo Mexico will focus mainly on projects that will synergize with its transport and mining divisions,” said a source close to the company. The company has over 60 years experience in infrastructure projects.

On May 10 the Mexican Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT), published in the Official Journal of the International Federation a public project to start the bidding process and obtain a 50-year concession to build, operate and administer the Riviera Maya International Airport, in Tulum, Quintana Roo.

Its construction is aimed at increasing the airport infrastructure in the country and trigger economic activity in the Southeast of Mexico. The airport is expected to receive 700,000 passengers in its first year of operation and would reach 3 million tourists in its third year.

The airport complex will be located in an area of more than 1.500 hectares of forests, and will include the construction of the terminal building, 3.450 meters of runway, taxiways, platforms, operational areas, fuel station and control tower, among other developments.

This week the groups participating in the airport bid will be known, so far there has been information that there are around 15 bidders.
